Audrey's Auto Blog

Hello! Welcome to my blog. My name is Audrey and today, I would like to invite you all to learn about the wonders of the automobile. I first became interested in the auto mobile after the death of my husband. Until that point, I had no interest in cars at all. My husband did all the driving and I simply had to turn up on time and climb into the back. However, a few days after the funeral, I walked into our garage and I decided that I would learn how to drive and how to maintain an automobile. Our mechanic has been very good at teaching me a few things and giving me some top advice.

Why You Should Not Rush to Replace a Malfunctioning Transmission System

Tracy Arnold

Have you noticed that your car's automatic transmission system is not shifting beyond a certain gear? Read on and discover other factors that may be causing that transmission problem. Use this information to have your vehicle inspected thoroughly so that the root cause of the transmission problem is diagnosed correctly and fixed.

Fuel Delivery Problems

The transmission system of your car may become unable to shift gears due to a problem in the fuel delivery system. Vehicles today are very complex due to the different computer systems that control each of their functions. The engine control module may detect insufficient amounts of fuel being received in the combustion chamber. This information can prevent the transmission from shifting into a gear that requires more engine power. Fixing the fuel delivery problem will therefore resolve the transmission issues that you were observing.

Defective Temperature Sensors

The engine control module receives temperature data from the engine coolant temperature sensor. This information can have an impact on the timing of gear shifts. For instance, the vehicle may hesitate to reach maximum speed when the engine hasn't warmed up fully. The gears that facilitate that increase in speed may therefore fail to engage until the engine is at the correct temperature. Defective temperature readings can therefore affect the smooth operation of the transmission system. Checking and fixing those sensors can solve the transmission problem.

Damaged Ignition Wires

Your car may also be unable to shift gears in case the ignition wires are damaged due to several factors, such as overheating and mechanical trauma. The defective wires can prevent complete combustion from taking place inside the engine. Thus, there will be insufficient power to facilitate the shifting of gears by the transmission system. A careful analysis of the engine's misfire data can reveal this problem.

Worn Spark Plugs

Vehicles that use spark plugs to ignite the fuel/air mixture inside the engine may also exhibit transmission problems when those spark plugs are worn. This is because incomplete combustion will reduce the amount of energy that the engine can produce in order to propel the vehicle. Some gears will therefore be unable to engage until ample engine power is available.

As you can see, the car part that is exhibiting a problem may not necessarily be the defective component. It is therefore vital for you to take your car to an experienced mechanic so that he or she can trace the problem to its source and either repair or order in new Honda car parts.
